Make-up Artist—Simone Lalwani

s

Enhancing natural beauty is foremost in the mind of makeup artist Simone Lalwani when she works. She is a young make-up artist, who has learnt from her clients one universal rule: women want to look fresh, flawless and beautiful. It’s this principle that drives a signature style that is feminine and natural, yet in keeping with modern style inspiration drawn from her many creative sources. “I love people and people love to feel beautiful, which is the reason I’ve decided to choose a career of doing makeup. I believe if you feel comfortable in your skin, then you can spend your energy loving others and enjoying life instead of worrying and being self-conscious. Is makeup the best way to gain self confidence? No way! But it can help a little, plus it’s FUN! So I hope I can help your life be a little bit happier, and perhaps more colorful.

Simone can be best described as a motivated, dedicated, kind and professional makeup artist, who is just twenty one years of age but blessed with creativity abundantly way above her age. Her passion and aptitude for beauty have been clearly apparent her entire life and she chased her dreams of being a professional makeup artist by studying it abroad in UK.

Tell us a about yourself…..

A career as a makeup artist can be exciting and different every day. The satisfaction comes from using makeup to help people look their best or become characters far different from their usual selves. Makeup artists work in entertainment, theater, television, film, retail stores and on their own. My names is Simone Lalwani, I am 21 years old and a freelance makeup artist. I was born and bought up in Goa. I studied in Manovikas English Medium School until the 10th standard and continued my education at Lincoln College in the UK. I first began my professional life after completing a course in England at The London Makeup School.

Up until this time I had always been interested in sport and was a keen footballer. I was in the UK doing an extended diploma in sport education. After completing my diploma I returned to India and attended the Fatmu Pro Makeup course in Mumbai. Even though I enjoyed the course especially the SFX portion, I still wanted to explore other possibilities and gain experiences. I had the opportunity to volunteer at a pre primary school and spent 3 months doing this. This allowed me to be creative and innovative which in turn helped to keep the children engaged and interested in learning. Eventually I decided that I wanted to continue in the makeup field and started freelancing about 2 years ago. I do a variety of work which includes weddings, fashion shows, editorials and body painting. To further my skills I have since completed a hair styling course as well as an airbrush makeup course.

I’ve always believed that hard work and determination are the secrets of success. Personally I think you should always be willing to learn new things and continually challenge yourself. You cannot let the fear of failure stop you. It is also important to have a never give up attitude and keep pushing yourself. Makeup artists must learn important skills even before picking up a sponge or brush. They learn to assess a client’s skin type, including coloring, condition and sensitivity. These factors determine the type and colors of makeup to use. Learning color principles is an intricate skill that takes into account race, ethnicity, obvious skin color and undertones of color. Makeup artists must also study a client’s bone structure to decide where and how to apply types and colors of makeup to achieve the desired results. To be a successful makeup artist, you should be creative and artistic, enjoy experimenting with ideas and materials, and have a good eye for color. Makeup artists may work long hours, mostly on their feet, requiring both stamina and fitness. The job can be stressful at times, too, with early mornings and travel for photo shoots and late evenings for theater work. Preparing for performances can put added pressure on everyone. Good communication skills will enable you to talk effectively with producers, writers, actors and your bosses so everyone agrees on the goal.

In today’s world, fashion is not just limited to celebrities or the page 3 glitterati. These days, anyone with a sense of style and ‘what looks good’ has a choice of options to pick from. A trend that has really caught up is wearing the look of your favourite celebrity. However, you cannot really complete an ensemble without the perfect makeup! Every celebrity has a favorite makeup artist who they rely upon whether it’s for a photo shoot or for a celebrity appearance. It can be easily said that most of these celebrities wouldn’t have the glow and beauty they are admired for, if it weren’t for the make-up artists! My best wishes to Simone to make it big in the world of make-up artists. You are truly gifted. Keep shining.
