Salome—a strong believer in herself.

6ABE74C6-5475-42DD-BA7A-4B53449848EA.jpeg

When I first met Salome, this is what She said to me— “I am me and no one else. I am unique and special. Believe it or not, every person is different from the other in one or more ways, and so am I. You might have come across incidents when people form a “first impression” about you, or friends form an “opinion” about you, may be positive, or may be negative. This happens because others can differentiate you from the rest. You possess certain things that make you unique in your own way. These possessions can be well turned into advantages if you are intelligent enough. Infact, intelligence itself sets you apart from others”. Knowing what makes her special has helped her harness her uniqueness into something productive. It has helped her in earning popularity at the workplace  and allowing people to identify them with her. According to Salome what’s most important is-knowing what and how you actually are. Your ways, your dealings, your life, your journey depends on all those intrinsic things you have by birth or you acquired during the process of growing up. It is your individuality. Once you know it, you can understand how you perceive life under the shades of your own interests.

Tell us something about your life

I’m a simple career woman, I started working at the age of 17 I am that person who is curious about almost everything that life has to offer and that is how I have been able to develop myself. I am 36 years, I hold a diploma in hotel and management and currently work-based diploma in early childhood course.

When where and why and how did you begin your professional life. Tell us about your journey

I began my professional life Kenya in 2006, 1 year after giving birth to my son where I pursued Diploma in Hotel management. My first job was a public area cleaner after 8 months i got promoted to work in the guest room as a room attendant. During this time I thought it wise to take a short course in housekeeping techniques to broaden my understanding in the housekeeping field, this step seemed to have impressed my manager who promoted me to a housekeeping supervisor in 2008 after 3 months.

In 2009, I happened to see a newspaper advert which I went ahead and applied not knowing it was a recruiting agency for jobs in Dubai. I then landed myself my first job away from home in Atlantis the palm as a housekeeping attendant.  The company offered after work part time jobs in different department so I chose to work as part timer in the kids club because I enjoyed and still enjoy being around children.  After 1 year with Atlantis hotel, I left to start a new role as a Kids club attendant with Rixos hotels, later with Address Dubai Marina and in 2006 I joined Address Boulevard as a kids club Agent where I got promoted to be the recreation supervisor after a period of 1 year. At the moment I am pursuing a Diploma in early childhood which will be another new journey that I am sure I will enjoy. I chose this career simply because I wanted to a chef but surprisingly I have ended up working with Children.

What is the secret of your success and what does success mean to you?

To me secret to success is

G –God first, setting goals

N – Never giving up

E – Eating and staying healthy

C – Choosing the right friends

N – Never put your trust in man/woman

I – Inner peace

I would like to describe myself as a person who is:

1. Caring and soft-hearted. I’m reeaally soft hearted, I mean, I care for people I don’t even know, and I care about other people’s needs over my own, sometimes to the extreme though…

2. I’m intelligent. I don’t mean to sound arrogant here, but I’m really smart, like, I’m only 16, but I’ve been reading tons of books on psychology and psychotherapy by authors such as Carl Jung, Freud, and Alan Watts.

3. I have a sense of humor. I know that sounds cliche, but senses of humor are severely lacking in our world, especially self humor, my sister says it’s good to make fun of yourself sometimes, it gives you perspective.

4. Considerate. Again, not trying to sound arrogant, but I have a tendency to put others ahead of mean, for no reason.

5. I’m a good listener, I mean, even though I’ve been going through my own struggle with depression, I’ll happily stop to listen to your troubles and see how you’re doing, I have friend who’s going through a really hard time, but I try to stay there and support, I’m an extremely loyal friend

I wish you all the best as you pursue  your dream of starting your own school in Kenya.

Journalist Rupesh Samant

011BEF6C-835E-4A85-944F-A39BAEE0B894.jpeg

The basis of journalism as the fourth estate and a watchdog for corruption and injustice brings an unequivocal responsibility for journalists to be equally skilled and hard-working as they are virtuous and ethical. However, it could be argued that the digital world we live in today, with its instantaneous access to information, click-bait culture and citizen journalism, has seriously impeded the prevalence of quality journalists. Despite this, journalists who showcase outstanding work and are considered as highly influential risk-takers in today’s media still exist.one such journalist is Rupesh Samant. With so many students out there pursuing journalism, the work of a good journalist is not just inspirational but also something to be inculcated in our own lives. Honest work always gives you the best results and that is something one should always remember.

Tell us something about your life.

My life has been filled with contrasts. After being born in a city, I did my schooling in the village which was located in wildlife sanctuary. The wilderness there taught me about life, what city life would not have been able to teach me. I was back in city for college and then started my career as a journalist. I must be one amongst the few Journalist, who were determined right from childhood that I would be a story teller and writer.

When, where, why and how did you begin your professional life? Tell us all about your journey.

I had initial brush with Journalism when I was in college. I used to work as a proof reader in Daily Sunaparant for night shift and then study during the day. I took up full time journalism after my graduation when I joined Herald as a cub reporter in Panaji. Writing and news was always my hobby. Sometimes I feel that if I was not a journalist, I would have become a driver. I like driving. From the time I joined Herald, the life has been like a movie script. I left Herald within one year of joining and was in Navhind Times for greener pasture. I stayed there for almost six years before resigning to take up most ambitious assignment of working for new look Sunaparant. After being there for more than one year, I was selected as Bureau Incharge for Press Trust of India news agency. In the meantime, I was part of team which started Prudent channel. I also anchored a political show on Prudent, HCN and now Prime TV.

Each day, I am learning from my mistakes in personal and professional life. I am one amongst those Journalist who likes to write news and was also in the news after being arrested for criminal offence.

What is the secret of your success and what does success mean to you?

I don’t consider myself as successful. I am still a struggler. Journalism is more of a struggle because if you are successful, you stop trying and then you get stagnated and outdated. For me, the success means making difference in the lives of people who are at the lowest ebb of economical or social hierarchy. If I pen some news or show some story on television, that should bring change in their lives. And the change should be forever. I would like to bask in such kind of glory.

Any striking incident in your life that had a deep impact on you or changed the course of your life?

I went through a very bad patch of life in the year 2015 on personal front. I would like to narrate it here but if anyone googles my name, they will get details about it. That changed my entire life. I was on the run for one and half month and was travelling in the Konkan region walking and through State Transport Buses. The incident had darker and brighter side. I realized who are my true friends and on the brighter side, I could know about Konkan from where my family originates. I am indebted to that land for keeping me safe.

Describe yourself as a person.

I am ambitious, you can say over ambitious person. I like to stay connected to the roots. Sometimes I am weird, and end up taking wrong decisions. I always learn after committing mistake. I am reliable. And cant describe more about myself. But I would not let anyone down. I am outspoken, so hated by many.

EB9FD0E5-01AA-4A55-A283-E3574DA9E7F6.jpeg

What are the challenges that you face?

For any journalist, life is full of challenges. Specially in the current world of technological advancement, the biggest challenge is to get the news first and break it first. I work for a news agency where time is precious. We have to gather accurate information and break the news before rivals do it. That is a challenge and I love to take it everyday. Sometimes I fail. But many a times I win.

8F7307D6-6684-4618-A391-E5BE5767F07C.jpeg

How do you balance work and family?

My parents are very supportive. In fact, it is due to my father that I became journalist. He is an ardent reader and feels happy to read what I write. He never misses a single television interview which I host. Even my mother has adjusted to the situation so well that she never complaints. That makes life more smoother.

F5872F74-F7BB-4E50-9843-05D320EEA271.jpeg

What are your future plans?

As far as profession is concerned, I want to continue experimenting in television space. Last year, I introduced a new concept of Prime Rajkaran which was adaptation from India TV’s Aap ki Adalat. Now want to try more new things in television space.

As far as writing is concerned, I want to start my project of a book, a non-fiction about my life experiences. It would be in English and Konkani both. That would require time. I have decided to make the time for it.

D480DDEA-E777-4E91-AC48-9784B3361EA4

What is your USP?

I think my biggest USP is that I have experienced both the worlds – rural and urban Goa. I can narrate stories from the wild and also from the corporate boardroom with equal perfection. The urge to learn new things is what drives me in life.

Creating enabling learning environment in schools…..

Creating enabling learning environment in schools…..

Children are naturally full of curiosity and have a great sense of wonder. To sustain this and develop it further, it is very  important to create a welcoming, friendly environment that sparks the child’s curiosity and makes learning an interactive and fun-based process. Play-based learning is very important for our kids. The benefits of stimulating environments

that meet the needs of all kinds of learners have been extolled by all educational philosophers. When children are learning in a play way method, they fell free to interact or communicate with one another, they contribute their own ideas, elaborate ont he ideas of others, there is sharing of understanding and knowledge.

It is however very sad that nowadays we are becoming slaves to technology and focussing more on getting a child to meet the desired learning outcome or target rather than allowing a child to develop at his or her own pace of learning. Children needs hands-on learning experiences where they can explore and discover a new exciting and enriching world of learning for themselves. It need not be a traditional classroom setting. The classroom should be a place that excites a child to listen, to talk, to ask questions, to relate new knowledge to previous experiences, to talk about the things they have discovered. There should be a free flow of learning happening everywhere, indoors, outdoors, corridors, library, pratically every nook and corner of the scholl. The teacher should just be a facilitator of learning and child-intiated learning should be encouraged all the time.

To create a welcoming environment for a child to get engaged in learning, furniture should be friendly, looking more like the one that is used at home. The cupboard should not be merely placed against the wall but should be positioned in such a way that the resources inside it, tease and invite the child to select and explore them effectively. An exploring learning centre with things that are not topic or curriculum related but based on the varied interests on the learners of the class should be there. this will help children to learn from one another’s varied interests. I have noticed that placing something that is interesting in a visible place sparks keen self-interest in the learners to explore those things. It ignites their motivation and makes them confident learners. Most children nowadays are self-learners and experiences that allow children to explore a wide range of learning activities can encourage them to engage well in self-chosen as well as adult led activities. However while trying to provide the best of everything, ample care has to be taken to avoid over stimulating the kids.

Provide loads of hands on activities for children to explore. As adults we do not like to be directed or led, then why expect children to do so? On a regular basis educators need to provide learning experiences they allow children to construct and deconstruct their ideas and theories.  Child initiated learning helps to build concentration, better attention span, independence, social interaction and critical thinking abilities of higher order. Children learn best when they are allowed to move their bodies freely throughout the day. Children should not be constrained to tables and desks. Learning is a natural process and a child will learn spontaneously if the learning environment stimulates and excites him or her to learn. Let us foster a child’s natural curiosity through play and make sure he becomes a learner for life.

Tell us something about your life.

I am a Mum to two lively, independent kids. When my Dad died, followed quickly by my Mum within the same year, I was walking my dogs one day and I was pondering what my parents gave me. They gave me the gift of self-esteem and self-confidence. Hopefully not an arrogance, but a belief that if I worked hard and kept going, no matter what, I could achieve whatever I set my mind to.

Suddenly in that muddy field it dawned on me that I needed to stop being a Deputy Head & Class Teacher after 22 years of working with children, and work with parents – as parents are the first people to give that gift to their children – and that person is YOU! My passion for the last 30 years has been to nurture ‘Can Do Kids’ with strong self-esteem, confidence, resiliency & robust mental health and wellbeing.

I retrained as a Coach and studied with Dr. Richard Bandler and Paul McKenna in NLP & I continue to study Adlerian Psychology. In recent years I’ve started to devote more and more time to my blog, my podcast, my videos, webinars and my mastermind courses and social media.

Without even knowing it, I created my own PERSONAL ‘Parenting Made Easy’ way of doing things.

And I was shocked at how quickly EVERYTHING changed for the parents I worked with.

I mean everything.

Almost overnight, I was inundated with ‘thank you’ notes, emails & cards, a flood of new private coaching clients and countless invitations to speak at schools, nurseries and organisations.

In 2012, I coined a term & wrote my 2nd Amazon bestselling book — ‘Parenting Made Easy’– to describe this new way of breaking down the overwhelming task of raising happy, confident kids based on positive psychology.

This led on to speaking on BBC Radio across the whole of the UK every week, appearing on Sky News and becoming the Parenting Expert on ITV ‘This Morning’ doing live phone-ins answering parenting questions.

Recently I’ve been working with Disney Junior UK doing Facebook Live ‘Tea Parties’ on Parenting from ‘Fussy Eaters’ to ‘Bedtime Routines’ & Parenting Hack Podcasts.

It’s been (and continues to be a huge adventure) & I’m still passionate about parenting & helping you to be the best parent you can be.

Evolve Homoeopathic Clinic, Raia

Ever since I remember, I have always felt the need to make a difference in the world we live in. I chose a path less travelled and opted to study Homoeopathy unlike many of my peers who took up careers which would guarantee them quick success. And with all my heart, I believed, and still do, that this chosen less traveled path will indeed bring about the paradigm shift I still hope to see in the world.

B3FCB142-965C-417D-B9EB-6EFC0B83A235.jpeg

I am Dr. Denise Rodrigues, a Homoeopath based in Raia, South Goa. Having graduated from Shri Kamaxidevi Homoeopathic Medical College, affiliated to Goa University, with a Gold Medal, I went on to work with an eminent Homoeopath, Dr. Dinesh Chauhan from Mumbai where I gained an in-depth knowledge of working with different types of cases including those of Autism , ADHD, Mental retardation and Cerebral Palsy. I worked with my mentor for two and a half years before returning back to Goa to start my own practice: Evolve Homoeopathic Clinic in Raia almost four years ago. It has been a blessed and rewarding journey. Seeing the speech of kids getting better, their eye contact improving, hyperactivity being channelized, and the gratitude in the eyes of the parents, is all what continues to make this journey worthwhile and purposeful.

05339A5A-0FC3-4885-A309-FED037C93EFF.jpeg

If anybody asks me to describe myself, it would always be: bibliophile, doggie mother, homoeopath, and baker. As much as I love to serve humanity, I love to work for the voiceless as well which is why I always adopt rescue dogs or take in dogs who are sick and need that extra love and care.

I truly love what I do and enjoy it immensely and this is what makes me passionate about my profession. I believe that it is passion and love for what you do, that will make you reach the pinnacles of success.

03835898-6F3C-41E3-B4C7-BF20A94514ED.jpeg

As I love working with children and experienced the wonders Homoeopathy can do when combined with other holistic therapies for special needs kids, I chose to spread awareness regarding the same.

424162C0-9B3B-4465-AD3D-4AB91C2AEBC4.jpeg

In Homoeopathy, the means of treating is: Holistic. That implies that we are not only focusing on treating the symptoms presented by the child but also on the unique nature of the child, the mothers’ history during pregnancy, parents’ observations, the physicians’ observations, the child’s likes and dislikes, dreams and fears, etc. We believe every child is different and unique. Yes, maybe the same sets of symptoms are present although with a different intensity, the very core being, the nature of one child is so different from the other!

00ED4DB5-E028-40A5-8EF7-D5BAC95A0B22.jpeg

Have you noticed one child who absolutely loves ice-creams whereas another could absolutely thrive on cakes, pastries and chocolates? Maybe you noticed a child who is so afraid of the dark and another who fearlessly walks into the dark room as if it didn’t scare him at all? Well, now those are the differences we look for! That is what makes a child unique. Even the likes and dislikes a mother develops during pregnancy help us find the unique likes and dislikes in a child.

7054F72D-805F-4A5C-AC7A-8D87818D438A.jpeg

Homoeopathy is all about finding that one perfect tailor-made remedy that fits your child and covers the symptoms as well as that beautiful, unique nature. Once the perfect, tailor-made remedy is administered to the child, changes are expected to be noticed in three months. The changes that can be seen would be: better eye contact, improvement in speech, repetitive behaviour patterns and words will reduce; the child would be more responsive and aware as well! It all depends on the intensity and severity of the diagnosis and also the cooperation of the parents, regular follow-ups and definitely how well the remedy fits the child. Over a period of time, changes are seen in the holistic development of the child for sure.

A4B67723-F24B-4B19-8FFE-AE289F31A964.jpeg

Many-a-times parents want a ‘quick-fix’ and are not ready to follow-up sincerely or make note of the changes that we expect to see. Even the smallest change in habits or change in intensity of symptoms is of great value to us. Contrary to the popular myth of Homoeopathy being slow, it actually is very quick, provided the parents fill us with the kind of information we are looking out for in order to find out that tailor-made remedy for their child. Co-operation of the parents are very important and is one of the biggest challenge I face as a Homoeopath dealing with special needs kids. All what is needed is awareness, awareness to make the right choice for a child when it comes to integrating treatment and therapy.

A081D6ED-5DCB-4F62-86DC-D1BF8DEDA27A3339EB91-6F62-4400-9B84-2A34F4482FDD

Another challenge faced is convincing the parents that their child needs to get assessed for a diagnosis to be made and start with therapy along with Homoeopathy. Many parents are not ready to take up the challenge when it comes to raising kids with special needs. I believe this too, will change with time as media has bridged the gap by bringing together many support groups world over.

8A59C1F2-B431-48B5-8E21-0EF3C4990A7F.jpeg

I have young patients’ whose parents pose a challenge to me when they are not able to give clear symptoms of their child or are not willing to spend time to understand the finer changes we hope to see. After counseling these parents, a few understand the importance whereas a few give up hope altogether. The fact that people give up hope is definitely not a deterrent to me as I know there will be a day where each and every parent will be fully aware of the choices they need to make for their children.

39E28D32-69D9-4626-8165-2E973ED401E4.jpeg

Apart from just giving Homoeopathic medication to remedy erratic behaviours and their patterns, I also focus on giving a holistic, tailor-made diet to each child who comes to me for treatment.

A373CED4-D042-42CD-BDC5-E40FB80A0DEA.jpeg

Apart from spreading more awareness, my future plans involve integrating dance, music, art, performance and story-telling therapy for children with special needs.9427F203-9BD1-48E1-91E6-E046D322E6E7.jpeg

Sanio-Goa’s Music Sensation

83FDA37F-CEA3-4782-A671-2FDA31CB7293.jpeg

Sanio Fernandes is more than a brilliant voice in Goa’s music industry. A highly motivated person, Sanio feels that the voice is fundamental but talent without hard work could mean talent wasted. He clearly understands that nearly all music is collaboration and that one needs to be able to work with people and be professional – and you need drive. And I can see that Sanio is highly self-driven. His biggest strength is his family, specially his wife, who gives him honest feedback and that according to him is very important. She has his best interests at heart and wants him to be his best self. One unique quality that would differentiate Sanio from the rest is his talent at creating unique sound of music for konkani. Many claim that Sanio has managed to make Konkani look and sound cool be it through his original song composition ‘Tin Kallzam’ which had a Latin Bachata sound to it or The remix of C Alvares ‘Sao Joao’ that had a reggaeton blend beautifully garmented by Spanish guitars.

Sanio’s genuine love and passion towards his talent and his pure love for Goa, Konkani and the Goan people make him immediately connect to his audience at Live performances. You can feel this connection if you scroll through and read the countless comments listeners leave on all his video posts amidst thousands of likes and shares within days of release.
Someone said, “Your character speaks so loud people can’t hear what you sing”
And Sanio’s Loving and humble down to earth nature has helped him grow immensely in his music career turning him into Goa’s proud singing sensation. Sanio has so far released 11 songs on social media and all are available on his YouTube channel.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCs68TpSRk7RtJSy_5RS_dYQ

It’s a fact that people get drawn to his singing style, striking presence, and charming expression which lights up his video frames.

Tell us something about yourself……

I am a Proud GOAN who is incredibly passionate about music. I am from the beautiful village of Seraulim. But have been living in Dubai for a long time. I started singing in 2007 in Dubai. Some group of musician friends advised me to record one song on video which we just did for fun and posted on FB. This song went viral and I started getting calls from everywhere to perform. That’s where my career of singing took off on the online world drawing attention of Goans living across the globe. I have been invited by a number of Goan organizations all over the world. I also play the guitar and keyboard.

Professionally, I am an Aviation enthusiast, holding a diploma in Aviation Business Management from Edith Cowan University, Australia, and I’m a licensed Federal Aviation Authority Flight Dispatcher. I came to Dubai in the year 2000 and started working with the world’s fastest growing airline Emirates as a check in agent and am currently working as a Standards Quality and Procedures Controller.

35636629-7235-42BF-87C7-AFB0F9F7EDFE.jpeg

Where do you find your inspiration?

I think in the people around me. Humanity is really inspiring to me, especially people and their stories. When it comes to sitting down and writing a song, I tend to start with a ‘why’. I think that’s the most important thing for me to capture in every song that I try to write.

As a musician and singer, you will agree the talent although i posses, was given to me. The song lyrics I write, they don’t come from me they come through me from somewhere and it is clear to me that there is a bigger intent that is trying to express itself through me. So I surrender to this intent and let it take over. Our last song released on international women’s day, attracted a lot of feedback and mostly men wrote into us saying ‘Thank you for this song, it makes me want to be a better husband to my wife’ and ironically also some wives wrote saying the same. One lady put a comment on our FB post ‘Thank you for reinforcing what I am to my husband and to my family, through your song I feel like doing it more and even getting better at it’.

Hence the moral of the story is ‘Let’s use our gifts to serve and positively impact others’. I personally feel that a greatest gift a human can experience through his work is to feel like as if he/She is a pencil in the hand of God that God is utilizing to draw his ÿÊt most beautiful painting.

What is the secret of your success?

If success means work I have done to positively impact others than I would say I have a long way to be successful. However there are three critical ingredients that help to progress.

1. First and foremost my Obsession to serve others and to see others suffer less. Through my singing I Am serving. I’m serving the listener when he forgets his worry n stress for the 4-5 minutes he is listening to my song. I’m serving our community, our language, & our unique identity. I don’t have to be the ocean but I just need to try and be the best drop that I can be whilst also connecting and blending with the other drops that are also doing their best in making Gods one big massive ocean.

2. Secondly, I Never attach myself to outcomes be it positive or negative. I always say to my team, we are only as good as our next song. Every Success is a beautiful lesson that teaches us to be proudly humble and every failure is Gods way of helping us grow within ourselves provided we seek and unwrap the lesson embedded in our failure. We are not our failures, but we are the students of the lessons the failing situations bring into our lives. This continuous process crafts us into better versions of ourselves.
3. Thirdly, I’m a continuous learner for life. When I learn something new the more I become aware of how little I know. I think We should Never arrive Because truly I feel The beauty is in the journey and not the destination. I intend to be a continuous life long learner and listener. Someone has beautifully said, “ In times of change the Learners will Inherit the world, while the Learned will beautiful equip themselves to deal with a world that no longer exists”

How can one get better at singing?

It’s a bit like learning to drive. When you first learn to drive it feels like there are just too many things going on at once: clutch, gear stick, mirrors, steering, accelerator, road awareness, etc. But slowly, over time, the whole thing becomes more manageable. Some things become second nature and your overall awareness of what you’re doing improves. It’s the same with singing. Singing is a performing art. A good singer is both a good musician (sounds good and sings the right notes) and a good performer (is engaging and interesting to watch). There is, in fact, a relationship between performing well and singing well; these skills rely on each other. You will gradually learn to have an overall awareness of your physical mechanism: posture, breath, tensions, larynx, mouth cavity, lips, etc. You will be able to check in quickly with yourself to check that everything is functioning as it should be. You’ll be able to focus on a single element without losing sense of everything else. But in all it’s technicalities remember to be yourself, and know you are serving.

You’ll always be working at your craft.you need to have a thick skin! Your music will be out in the public eye, whether it’s at a performance, in an audition, on your website, or streaming on Spotify or YouTube. Every singer faces criticism, so you need to learn to handle rejection and not be so hard on yourself. The art and craft of singing, whether you are doing it at the professional level or as a passionate recreational singer, is a process that is and will always be evolving within you.
